Benq took over the Siemens division of mobile phones and for that received 250 million dollars of the German multinational, which is freed of its burden. Seemed like a good deal for the firm that was eager to move the manufacturing of mobile phones for other brands for the marketing of its own, to follow this global projection, yet since then, and for the first time in its history, the results have been negative, which does not mean that their products are not good.
In the new Benq-Siemens brand Portfolio, the second after SonyEricsson, to combine two names, which to date account already with 12 models announced for release of which only three have entered into commercialization.
S68, The Thickness is The Key to Success
With only 13 millimeters thick and 79 grams of weight the design is certainly one of the strengths of S68. With an exterior in shades of aluminum, including keys and half in black plastic, rounded shape of the corners make it perfect like a glove. The screen is capable of 262 thousand colors (132 x 176 pixels, corresponding to about 3.7 by 2.7 inches of light surface) is of good quality although, in proportion to the size of the model (10.7 x 4.4 cm) it is a little out of proportion.
The monoblock is composed by two parts, the battery compartment and to insert the SIM card of the operator have to access by removing the entire back cover. The rigid structure of the phone, gives a general impression of solidity to the model; It is also able to withstand small drops.
The keyboard with a white light illumination, is spacious enough. Joypad, which highlights the square shape with a thin outer edge, contrary to what most people would expect at first sight it is efficient, even during the games. Laterally, are present on both sides two keys, the right to control the volume, and left, respectively, for direct access to the voice recorder (with capacity for 100 minutes of recording) and a direct dial number that has to be configured by the user.
The operating system of the BenQ-Siemens S68 is, in terms of interface, built around a large menu with 12 items (Messages, Contacts, Call log, Voice Mailbox, Organizer, Alarm clock, Ringtones, Internet, Games, Extras, Settings and Personnel), among which the user switches, viewing only one at a time on the screen.
Even with a scroll bar on the leftof the screen, at the first impact, the navigation can be a bit confusing - memorize the order of 12 options is not simple thing - ultimately have to be a bit like being in the dark, alternating between all the options until we find the one that interests us.
The set of software supplied is particularly complete, missing him only more memory and camera to multimedia editing capabilities. With 26 MB of total memory itself, we must emphasize the quality of Java support, so install and run 'midlets' easily even by simply sending via bluetooth from a PC or any other device.
